Sticky or rotating sessions, HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, unmetered concurrency, priced by bandwidth. Three pools on one gateway: Full Geo (205M+ IPs, country, state, city and ASN targeting, from $0.75/GB), Country Geo (31M+ IPs, country targeting, from $0.48/GB) and Non-Geo (31M+ IPs, no targeting, from $0.10/GB). ### [ISP Proxies](https://shifter.io/services/isp-proxies) Residential IPs from real ISPs: 120 countries, 1,800+ cities and 900+ ISPs (ASNs). Every country, US state and city page lists the ISPs and ASNs available there. Each proxy stays in the city and on the ISP you choose for the whole billing period; the address can refresh like a real home connection. HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, unlimited bandwidth, priced per IP. ### [Web Scraping API](https://shifter.io/services/scraping-api) Managed REST endpoint that fetches and renders any URL. Handles proxy rotation, headless Chrome with JavaScript execution, CAPTCHA solving, automatic retries, and extraction rules for structured output. ### [SERP API](https://shifter.io/services/serp-api) Real-time structured search results from Google, Bing, Yandex, and Amazon with city-level geo-targeting, desktop and mobile results, and pay-per-successful-request billing. ## Free tools - [Free Web Proxy](https://shifter.io/web-proxy): browse any website through a Shifter exit in 54 countries, in the browser, with no signup, no ads and no install. Free allowance: 30 minutes and 100 MB per visitor per day. Each country has its own page, e.g. [US web proxy](https://shifter.io/web-proxy/usa). - [Web proxy alternatives](https://shifter.io/web-proxy/alternatives) and [web proxy reviews](https://shifter.io/web-proxy/reviews): free web proxies (CroxyProxy, ProxySite, KProxy and others) compared and scored on measured speed, countries, ads and privacy. - [IP Info](https://ip-info.com): free IP geolocation and ASN API from Shifter, no signup and no API key, on the same database as Shifter's proxy pools. `GET http://ip-info.com/json` returns the caller's IP; `http://ip-info.com/json?ip=8.8.8.8` looks up any IP. [Docs](https://shifter.io/docs/resources/ip-info/). IP Info returns 29 fields, always present (null when unknown), including `country` (ISO 3166 two-letter code), region, city, coordinates, time zone, `asn` (a plain number, no AS prefix), ISP, organisation and connection type. Send the no-argument request through a proxy to check which exit country, city and ASN you got. It is not VPN or proxy detection. ```bash curl --proxy http://p.shifter.io:443 --proxy-user "customer-USERNAME-country-us:PASSWORD" http://ip-info.com/json ``` ## Pricing - [Pricing overview](https://shifter.io/pricing) - [Residential Proxies pricing](https://shifter.io/pricing/residential-proxies): three pools, Full Geo from $0.75/GB, Country Geo from $0.48/GB, Non-Geo from $0.10/GB. - [ISP Proxies pricing](https://shifter.io/pricing/isp-proxies): per-IP pricing, unlimited bandwidth. - [Web Scraping API pricing](https://shifter.io/pricing/scraping-api): pay per successful request. - [SERP API pricing](https://shifter.io/pricing/serp-api): pay per successful request, all engines included. ## API reference ### Residential Proxies gateway One endpoint for every location and session mode. Authenticate per request with username and password; encode targeting in the username. - Host `p.shifter.io`, port `443`. HTTP(S) and SOCKS5. - Username flags: `country`, `state`, `city`, `asn`, `sid` (session id for sticky IPs), `ttl` (sticky lifetime in seconds, only valid with `sid`). Flag order is irrelevant; omit `sid` for per-request rotation. ```bash curl -x customer-USERNAME-country-us-city-new_york-sid-9f3a2b7c-ttl-600:PASSWORD@p.shifter.io:443 \ http://ip-info.com/json ``` Common errors: `407` username/password wrong or unknown flag (e.g. bad country code); `502` no IPs match the filter right now (broaden it or retry). ### Proxy management REST API Programmatic geo lookups, source-IP whitelist, geo defaults, and proxy lists. - Residential base `https://shifter.io/api/v1/residential`, auth via `api_key` query parameter (Account → API Keys). - Legacy ISP plans (pinned IPs, existing customers only) base `https://shifter.io/api/v1/static-residential/{membership}`, auth via `api_token` query parameter (Account → API Tokens). - Legacy base `https://shifter.io/api/v1/backconnect`, auth via `api_token` query parameter. - The `{membership}` path parameter is your plan ID, shown on the plan page in the panel. ```bash curl "https://shifter.io/api/v1/residential/geo/countries?api_key=YOUR_API_KEY" ``` ### Web Scraping API `GET https://scrape.shifter.io/v1` (POST and PUT also supported). Pass `api_key` on every request. - Options include `render_js`, `wait_for_css`, `keep_headers`, and `webhook` (POST the result when ready). ```bash curl "https://scrape.shifter.io/v1?api_key=YOUR_API_KEY&url=https://example.com&render_js=1&wait_for_css=h1" ``` ### SERP API `GET https://serp.shifter.io/v1` with an `engine` and `api_key`. Amazon/ecommerce uses `https://ecom.shifter.io/v1`. ```bash curl "https://serp.shifter.io/v1?engine=google&api_key=YOUR_API_KEY&q=residential+proxies&location=United+States" ``` ### Errors and limits Every endpoint returns a standard HTTP status with a JSON `{error, message}` body on failure. `400` bad request, `401` invalid/missing credentials, `403` plan does not allow the feature, `404` not found, `429` rate limited (retry with backoff), `5xx` retry with backoff. - [Full REST API reference](https://shifter.io/docs/api/) - [Gateway & authentication](https://shifter.io/docs/products/residential-proxies/gateway-and-auth/) ## Use cases - [Web Scraping](https://shifter.io/use-cases/web-scraping): Collect data from any website at scale without getting blocked. Massive starts at $8.00/GB and its best published tier is $4.90. Shifter starts at $2.00 and reaches $0.75/GB, on a pool of 205M+ residential IPs across 195+ countries. - [Shifter vs NodeMaven](https://shifter.io/alternative/nodemaven): A NodeMaven alternative with a far deeper pool. NodeMaven runs roughly 30M residential IPs from $2.20/GB on monthly plans and $4.50 pay as you go. Shifter runs 205M+ IPs from $0.75/GB. - [Shifter vs Proxy-Seller](https://shifter.io/alternative/proxy-seller): A Proxy-Seller alternative built around one thing. Proxy-Seller sells residential from $3.00/GB down to $2.20 alongside a broad catalog of IPv4, IPv6 and mobile. Shifter focuses on residential and ISP proxies from $0.75/GB. - [Shifter vs Live Proxies](https://shifter.io/alternative/live-proxies): A Live Proxies alternative for teams that need volume. FleetProxy charges $2.12/GB at 100 GB and publishes 30M+ residential IPs. Shifter runs 205M+ across 195+ countries from $0.75/GB, and publishes measured live IP counts rather than pool claims. - [Shifter vs LunaProxy](https://shifter.io/alternative/lunaproxy): LunaProxy is no longer in business. It resold the IPIDEA network, which Google disrupted in January 2026, and closed along with the other brands running on that pool. If you need a replacement, Shifter serves 205M+ residential IPs across 195+ countries from $0.75/GB, with published benchmarks you can verify. - [All alternatives](https://shifter.io/alternatives) ## Benchmarks (measured) - United States: 212,212 distinct live residential IPs in 250,000 requests, larger than every one of the 16 providers benchmarked and 41% more than the next (Webshare, 150,512). 1,828 ASNs and 5,805 cities. - 5 countries (United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Germany): 390,093 live IPs combined, the highest total measured; next Webshare with 306,410. - Live pool rank: 1st in United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada; 4th in Germany. - Method: every provider gets the same requests per country through its own gateway; the pool figure counts distinct exit IPs. Full results per provider, with the numbers that did not go our way, are on each benchmark page. [All benchmarks](https://shifter.io/benchmarks). - [Shifter vs Decodo benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/decodo): Looking for a Decodo alternative? Shifter came out ahead in this head to head residential proxy benchmark: faster in all five countries, wider network spread in four of them, and 63% less per GB. Rather than compare advertised pool sizes, we counted the IPs each network had live at test time, where Shifter led Decodo in four of five countries, by up to 53% in the United States. - [Shifter vs Oxylabs benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/oxylabs): Looking for an Oxylabs alternative? Shifter served more live IPs in four of the five countries we tested, by about 51% in the United States, reached more networks in four of five, and answered faster everywhere, at a fraction of Oxylabs' enterprise rate. Shifter trailed only in Germany, by 5.8%. - [Shifter vs Webshare benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/webshare): Looking for a Webshare alternative? Shifter returned the larger live pool in four of five countries, from more networks in four, and answered roughly twice as fast in every market tested while costing 46% less per GB. Webshare kept the lead only in Germany. - [Shifter vs SOAX benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/soax): Looking for a SOAX alternative? Shifter served more live residential IPs than SOAX in every country tested, from 89% more in the United States to nearly six times more in France, and completed a higher share of requests in all five. - [Shifter vs IPRoyal benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/iproyal): Looking for an IPRoyal alternative? Shifter served between 2.6 and 5.6 times more live residential IPs than IPRoyal in every country tested, spread across up to three times as many networks, and starts at $2 per GB where IPRoyal starts at $7. - [Shifter vs Byteful benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/byteful): Looking for a Byteful alternative? Shifter served more live residential IPs than Byteful in every country tested and completed far more of its requests. Byteful failed roughly one request in four in Germany during our run, and costs more than twice as much per GB at its best rate. - [Shifter vs DataImpulse benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/dataimpulse): Looking for a DataImpulse alternative? DataImpulse prices well and runs reliably, so this comparison comes down to coverage. Shifter served between 76% and 188% more live residential IPs across the five countries tested, drawn from substantially more networks. - [Shifter vs Evomi benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/evomi): Looking for an Evomi alternative? Evomi ran cleanly, completing almost every request, but returned the smallest live pool of any network we benchmarked. Shifter served between 2.5 and 8.4 times more residential IPs online at test time, and answered two to three times faster. - [Shifter vs Proxy-Seller benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/proxy-seller): Looking for a Proxy-Seller alternative? Proxy-Seller runs one of the deeper pools in our benchmark series. Shifter served more live residential IPs in all five markets we measured, by 22% to 75%, reached a wider spread of networks in every one, and costs 66% less per GB. - [Shifter vs Infatica benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/infatica): Looking for an Infatica alternative? We counted the residential IPs each network had live and answering in five markets. Shifter led all five, reached a wider spread of networks in every one, and costs 71% less per GB at scale. - [Shifter vs ProxyEmpire benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/proxyempire): Looking for a ProxyEmpire alternative? The two are level on price at $0.75 per GB, so this comes down to what each network actually serves. Shifter returned more live residential IPs in every one of the five markets we measured, and completed the test where ProxyEmpire dropped a third of its requests. - [Shifter vs NodeMaven benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/nodemaven): Looking for a NodeMaven alternative? We counted the residential IPs each network had live and answering in five markets. Shifter led every one, by more than three times in the largest and by nearly four times in the smallest, at 66% less per GB. - [Shifter vs Massive benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/massive): Looking for a Massive alternative? We counted the residential IPs each network had live and answering in five markets. Shifter led every one, from 87% more in Germany to twenty-two times more in France, at 85% less per GB. - [Shifter vs Proxy Cheap benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/proxy-cheap): Looking for a Proxy Cheap alternative? Its gateway answered around 70% of our requests with redirects and reset another fifth, in every country we tested. Shifter completed the same test and costs 85% less per GB. - [Shifter vs FleetProxy benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/fleetproxy): Read this first: FleetProxy is not a separate network from ProxyEmpire. Both hostnames resolve to the same nine gateway IP addresses on the same port, use the same username format, and on runs taken the same day they served 57% of the same exit addresses, rising to 90% in Germany. With that said, we sent the same requests through both networks in five countries. Shifter returned more live residential IPs in every market, answered roughly twice as fast, and costs $0.75 per GB against $2.12. - [Shifter vs Rayobyte benchmark](https://shifter.io/benchmark/rayobyte): We sent the same requests through both networks in five countries. Rayobyte is quick: we answered in 427 ms in the United States against its 333 ms, and it was faster in all five markets. What it does not match is depth: Shifter returned 146% more live US addresses and between four and nine times more in every other market, at $0.75 per GB against $2.00. ## Reviews (scored) - [Oxylabs review](https://shifter.io/review/oxylabs): A large, very reliable network at a price that only works above a terabyte a month. - [Decodo review](https://shifter.io/review/decodo): The mid-market all-rounder: deep, reliable and self-serve, priced above the value end. - [SOAX review](https://shifter.io/review/soax): Precise targeting, let down by uneven reliability and one of the steepest price ladders. - [Webshare review](https://shifter.io/review/webshare): The deepest competitor pool we have measured, cheaply sold, with the slowest responses in the series. - [IPRoyal review](https://shifter.io/review/iproyal): Dependable, with traffic that never expires, but roughly half the pool of the leaders. - [Infatica review](https://shifter.io/review/infatica): A deep pool behind a gateway that refuses plain HTTP, priced for enterprise volume. - [Proxy-Seller review](https://shifter.io/review/proxy-seller): Deep, quick and reliable, held back by a flat ladder and one account per country. - [DataImpulse review](https://shifter.io/review/dataimpulse): The value pick: flat $1 per GB, no subscription, and a mid-sized pool to match. - [Shifter review](https://shifter.io/review/shifter): The deepest pool, the widest network spread and the lowest rate we measured. - [Bright Data review](https://shifter.io/review/bright-data): The most complete proxy platform on the market, priced for buyers with a procurement department. - [ProxyEmpire review](https://shifter.io/review/proxyempire): Cheap and quick when it answers, but a third of our requests never came back. - [Byteful review](https://shifter.io/review/byteful): Well spread and fairly priced, with the least consistent completion of any working network. - [Massive review](https://shifter.io/review/massive): Quick, consistent and well engineered, on a mid-sized pool priced at the top of the market. - [Proxy Cheap review](https://shifter.io/review/proxy-cheap): A flat rate near the top of the market, on a gateway that answered barely a tenth of an ordinary plain HTTP test. - [FleetProxy review](https://shifter.io/review/fleetproxy): Not a separate network from ProxyEmpire: same gateway addresses, same port, and 57% of the same exit IPs on the same day. - [Rayobyte review](https://shifter.io/review/rayobyte): Genuinely fast and accurate in the United States, on a pool that thins sharply everywhere else. - [All reviews](https://shifter.io/reviews) ## Proxy locations - [Datacenter Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/datacenter-proxy): A datacenter proxy is a proxy server whose IP address comes from a cloud or hosting provider, rather than an Internet Service Provider serving real consumer households. - [ISP Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/isp-proxy): An ISP proxy is a residential proxy whose IP address is registered to a real Internet Service Provider and served from managed infrastructure, so it carries residential trust while staying tied to one ISP and location. - [Mobile Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/mobile-proxy): A mobile proxy is a proxy server that routes your traffic through an IP address assigned by a mobile carrier (3G, 4G, or 5G) to a real smartphone or tablet, carrying the highest trust score with anti-bot systems. - [SOCKS5 Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/socks5-proxy): A SOCKS5 proxy is a proxy server that uses the SOCKS5 protocol to forward arbitrary TCP and UDP traffic between a client and a destination, without parsing or modifying the application-layer payload. - [Rotating Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/rotating-proxy): A rotating proxy is a proxy service that automatically assigns a different IP address to each request (or at fixed time intervals) by drawing from a pool of available IPs. - [IP Rotation](https://shifter.io/glossary/ip-rotation): IP rotation is the practice of switching the source IP address of outgoing requests on a defined cadence (per request, per time window, or per session) to distribute traffic across many IPs and avoid per-IP rate limits. - [Sticky Session](https://shifter.io/glossary/sticky-session): A sticky session is a proxy configuration that pins the same exit IP to a client for a defined window or for the lifetime of a session ID, instead of rotating to a new IP per request. - [Geo-Targeting](https://shifter.io/glossary/geo-targeting): Geo-targeting in proxy services is the ability to choose the geographic location of your exit IP — by country, region, state, city, or ASN — so that destination sites see your traffic as originating from that specific market. - [IP Pool](https://shifter.io/glossary/ip-pool): An IP pool is the collection of IP addresses a proxy provider can assign as exit IPs for customer traffic, typically spanning many subnets, ASNs, and geographies. - [Proxy Server](https://shifter.io/glossary/proxy-server): A proxy server is an intermediary system that sits between a client and a destination server, forwarding requests on behalf of the client and returning the destination's responses, typically to mask the client's IP, control access, or apply policy. - [CAPTCHA](https://shifter.io/glossary/captcha): A CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a challenge-response system websites use to distinguish human visitors from automated bots, typically by asking the visitor to solve a puzzle that's easy for humans but difficult for software. - [Browser Fingerprinting](https://shifter.io/glossary/browser-fingerprinting): Browser fingerprinting is a technique websites use to identify and track visitors by collecting a set of attributes from the browser (User-Agent, screen size, fonts, plugins, canvas hash, WebGL signatures, etc.) and combining them into a unique signature. - [TLS Fingerprint](https://shifter.io/glossary/tls-fingerprint): A TLS fingerprint is a hash derived from the specific structure of a client's TLS handshake (cipher list, extensions, ALPN values, GREASE bytes, etc.) that identifies the underlying HTTP client, browser, or library before any application-layer data is exchanged. - [Headless Browser](https://shifter.io/glossary/headless-browser): A headless browser is a real web browser running without a graphical user interface, controlled programmatically through APIs like Chrome DevTools Protocol or WebDriver, used for automated testing, scraping, and rendering JavaScript-heavy pages. - [User Agent](https://shifter.io/glossary/user-agent): A User-Agent is an HTTP request header that identifies the client software making the request — typically including browser name, version, OS, and rendering engine — like 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/120.0.0.0 Safari/537.36'. - [Web Scraping](https://shifter.io/glossary/web-scraping): Web scraping is the automated extraction of structured data from websites using HTTP requests, browser automation, or APIs, typically for use in analytics, monitoring, research, or downstream applications. - [SERP Scraping](https://shifter.io/glossary/serp-scraping): SERP scraping is the practice of programmatically extracting search engine results page (SERP) data — organic listings, ads, snippets, knowledge panels, local packs — from Google, Bing, Yandex, or other search engines, typically for SEO monitoring, ad-spend analysis, or rank tracking. - [Price Monitoring](https://shifter.io/glossary/price-monitoring): Price monitoring is the systematic, often automated tracking of product prices across competitor websites and marketplaces, used to inform dynamic pricing, MAP enforcement, competitive intelligence, and category analytics. - [Ad Verification](https://shifter.io/glossary/ad-verification): Ad verification is the practice of programmatically auditing where, when, and how digital ads actually appear — checking placement, viewability, brand-safety context, geo-targeting accuracy, and fraud signals — usually by visiting publisher pages from real consumer IPs and capturing what the page renders. - [Brand Protection](https://shifter.io/glossary/brand-protection): Brand protection is the systematic monitoring of online channels — marketplaces, social media, search results, paid ads, and the open web — to detect counterfeit listings, trademark abuse, impersonator accounts, and unauthorized resellers, then enforce against them. - [HTTP Proxy](https://shifter.io/glossary/http-proxy): An HTTP proxy is a proxy server that understands and forwards HTTP (and via the CONNECT method, HTTPS) traffic, operating at the application layer and able to inspect, modify, or cache request and response data for plain HTTP. - [ASN](https://shifter.io/glossary/asn): An ASN (Autonomous System Number) is a globally unique identifier assigned to a network operator (ISP, hosting provider, enterprise) by IANA, used in BGP routing to define which IP ranges that operator announces to the internet. - [Rate Limiting](https://shifter.io/glossary/rate-limiting): Rate limiting is a server-side defense that caps how many requests a single client (identified by IP, account, or session) can make in a given time window, used to protect infrastructure, prevent abuse, and ensure fair resource usage. - [robots.txt](https://shifter.io/glossary/robots-txt): robots.txt is a plain-text file at the root of a website (e.g. example.com/robots.txt) that tells web crawlers which URLs the site owner does or doesn't want them to access, following the Robots Exclusion Protocol. - [Sneaker Bot](https://shifter.io/glossary/sneaker-bot): A sneaker bot is automated software designed to purchase limited-release sneakers (or other limited-stock items) the moment they go on sale, by completing checkout faster than a human can — typically requires fast residential or ISP proxies to avoid per-IP purchase limits. ## Company -
