Most of the modern web is gated behind anti-bot, geofencing, and personalized rendering. Shifter exists so the teams that need a representative view of the public web can get one.
We started in 2012 because there was nothing simple to use. The proxy market was a cottage industry of port-based gateways, opaque pricing, and hand-shipped IP lists. Customers needed a real network with documented behavior and predictable invoices.
That problem has not gone away. The network has scaled to 205M+ residential IPs, but the principle is the same. Real residential connections. Bandwidth pricing. APIs you can read in a sitting. Operations that work at production scale.
Today, the work covers more than scraping. Customers ground language models on web data, verify ad placements across markets, monitor rankings city-by-city, screen brand impersonation, and run KYC/AML pipelines that have to see the open web exactly as a real local user would.
