We counted the live residential IPs Shifter and DataImpulse each served across five countries, under an identical test. See the numbers and the method.

Why use Shifter residential proxies?
Substantially More IPs Online
Our benchmark counted live addresses rather than advertised pools. Shifter served 57% more in the United States, 77% more in the United Kingdom and 183% more in Germany. Full per country results are at /benchmark/dataimpulse.
The Gap Widens in Smaller Markets
Coverage differences were largest exactly where pools are thinnest. In Germany, DataImpulse served 7,786 live IPs against Shifter's 22,005 in the same test window, which is the difference between a crawl that rotates freely and one that recycles addresses.
Wider Network Spread
Shifter's addresses came from more distinct autonomous systems in every country. Since anti-bot systems key on the network behind an IP, that spread does more to keep a crawl alive than raw address count.
Competitive at Volume
DataImpulse prices attractively at low volume, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. From 200 GB a month Shifter runs at $0.75/GB against their $1.00 standard rate, so the economics turn as you scale.
Published Method, Not Marketing Claims
Every coverage figure on this page comes from a test we published in full, including sample sizes and the countries where we did not win. You can repeat it in an afternoon.
Simple, transparent pricing
Fixed monthly plans with included bandwidth. No hidden fees. Scale as your usage grows.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about switching from DataImpulse to Shifter.
It depends on the country. Our August 2026 benchmark measured 29.6% more live IPs in Canada, 52% more in France, 57% more in the United States, 77% more in the United Kingdom and 183% more in Germany.
At low volume, often yes. DataImpulse sells pay as you go from $1.00/GB with no subscription, which undercuts Shifter's entry plan. From 200 GB a month Shifter is cheaper at $0.75/GB, and the coverage gap applies at every volume.
Advertised pools count every address a network has ever seen. What limits a crawl is how many are online in your target country when you run. Our benchmark measures the second, which is why the numbers look smaller than the marketing figures on both sides.
Rarely. Both use standard credential authentication over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5, so most teams swap the endpoint and credentials and leave the rest alone.
