BlockAway Review
BlockAway works well for ordinary pages: all ten test loads succeeded and a JavaScript app ran fine. It is CroxyProxy under another name, so it shares that platform's lack of country choice and ad-funded model, and YouTube would not play in our check.
The short version
- Ten of ten test loads worked, with a 2,411 ms median, identical to what we measured on CroxyProxy.
- Same template, banner and server IP as CroxyProxy: a second brand, not an independent fallback.
- No country picker; the exit IP we recorded sat on MEVSPACE, a Polish hosting network.
- Ads on the homepage; none visible inside proxied pages, though ad code made a median of 2 requests per page.

What we measured
Results from the scripted browsing session every proxy in this series goes through. Measured from a single connection in the EU, using test method wpb-1.1. Every proxy ran the same scripted session.

What BlockAway is
BlockAway is a free web proxy at blockaway.net. You type an address or a search, press Go and the site opens with a small toolbar on top. The basic version is free with no signup, proxied links can be shared, and a Get premium access link offers a paid tier at a price the site does not publish. Its own copy describes Europe and USA server options and unlimited video access on YouTube.
Look closely and it is a familiar product. Template, sponsored banner, premium offer and the server IP in its footer all match CroxyProxy's. Semrush shows it ranking for CroxyProxy brand searches, which is how many of its visitors find it. In practice it is the same platform under a second name.
How it performed in our test
Our results for BlockAway closely mirror CroxyProxy's. None of the 10 test loads failed, and the median from the Go click to visible content, 2,411 ms, matched CroxyProxy's to the millisecond. Every target rendered, from example.com to the GitHub login form, and the TodoMVC React app took a typed to-do. Login persistence was outside the test, since we never signed in.
YouTube did not live up to the unlimited video pitch in our run. YouTube's player appeared, yet the clip never started in our muted play check, on the first pass or on a retest after the cookie wall was cleared. CroxyProxy behaved the same way, which fits a shared backend.
There is no location picker on the homepage. The exit was Polish too, on an IP owned by MEVSPACE, a hosting company, not a household connection. Interestingly, CroxyProxy's exit in the same test was on a different hosting network, so the platform is shared but the exits are not necessarily identical. We did not run a formal IP-type classification.
Ads, privacy and whether BlockAway is safe
The homepage carries Google ad slots and the sponsored banner shared with CroxyProxy. On the proxied pages BlockAway adds the same header ad slot as CroxyProxy, one per page, which stayed empty in our automated browser. We saw no pop-up or interstitial, and a median of 2 requests per page went to known ad-network hosts.
The connection to BlockAway is HTTPS, which keeps the pages you open hidden from others on your network. What BlockAway itself records is less clear: the operating company is not named, and we did not review a BlockAway-specific logging policy, so we treat it as not disclosed. For context only, the privacy policy of its sister brand CroxyProxy says it logs IP addresses, pages and clicks and aims to keep them for 60 days. We cannot confirm the same applies here. Either way, keep passwords and payment details out of any free web proxy.
Who BlockAway suits
BlockAway is a convenient mirror of CroxyProxy. If CroxyProxy is blocked on your network but blockaway.net is not, it gives you the same experience: quick, reliable for ordinary pages and with no published daily cap.
It is not a real second opinion, though. A site that turns CroxyProxy away has little reason to treat BlockAway differently, and you still cannot choose a country. Our own Shifter Web Proxy runs on a separate, residential network with 54 countries to pick from, no ads and no page logs, within a free allowance of 30 minutes and 100 MB a day and a reCAPTCHA check per session.
Pros and cons
- All 10 test page loads succeeded
- JavaScript app and login form rendered
- Free basic version with no signup and shareable links
- Works as a mirror when CroxyProxy itself is blocked
- Same platform as CroxyProxy, so not an independent alternative
- No country choice; the one exit we checked was a hosting IP in Poland
- YouTube loaded but did not play in our check
- Homepage ads, an ad slot on every proxied page and an unnamed operator
Who BlockAway is for
- CroxyProxy is blocked on your network and you want the same tool.
- You need quick access to ordinary pages with no signup.
- Any European exit is good enough.
- You want a backend that is genuinely different from CroxyProxy.
- You need a specific country.
- You want video to play or a published logging policy.
How we scored it
Measured from a single connection in the EU, using test method wpb-1.1. Every proxy ran the same scripted session. Countries are scored on a log scale, because a jump from 3 to 20 countries matters far more to a visitor than one from 100 to 200, and only countries with residential exits count: every exit we observed is classified by its network, consumer ISP or hosting provider. Ads are scored on three parts: ads on the landing page (25%), ad slots added to proxied pages, filled or empty (45%) and ad-network code loaded while you browse, seen or not (30%). Any ad-network request caps that part at 6 out of 10.
Every criterion is calculated from published facts or our own measurements and normalised across all the free web proxies we track, Shifter included. Nothing is scored by hand, so a proxy that beats ours on a criterion scores higher on it.
- Speed measuredWeight 22% 7.9/10
2411 ms median page load against 16 proxies we timed, multiplied by the 100% of test pages that loaded.
- Countries measuredWeight 17% 0/10
Every exit we observed was on a hosting or cloud provider's network, so none count as residential. Log scale against the widest residential choice in the field (54).
- Ads measuredWeight 22% 4/10
Landing page ads: yes. Ad slots added to proxied pages, filled or empty: 1. Ad-network requests per proxied page: 2.
- Compatibility measuredWeight 22% 5/10
Passed 1 of 2 checks (YouTube playback, staying logged in, a JavaScript app).
- PrivacyWeight 17% 2/10
Operator named: no. Logging: no policy published. HTTPS to the proxy: yes.
